President Trump News: Presidential Message on National Impaired Driving Prevention Month
President Trump has followed a long tradition of U.S. presidents declaring December as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. The following comes directly from a statement issued on The White House website:
Every year, thousands of Americans are injured or killed by reckless drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs. This National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, we send our prayers and unending support to every American who has lost a loved one—and we reaffirm our commitment to preventing drug and alcohol abuse on our roads, protecting American lives, and making America safe, healthy, and strong.
Plans to Improve Substance Abuse Crisis
Alcohol-related crashes aren’t the only substance abuse problems our country is facing. The statement continued by providing some insight into plans to improve the substance abuse crisis in our country:
We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in programs like the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program and the Drug-Free Communities Support Program to dismantle drug trafficking organizations and restore order and safety to our streets. My Administration is also working to increase access to treatment so that every American battling drug and alcohol use has a path to total recovery and we will continue working with our partners in the states to raise awareness through high visibility enforcement campaigns, such as Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Make Sure Your Holiday Plans Include a Safe Ride Home
As an ignition interlock device provider, we constantly meet people who regret their decision to drive drunk. During the holidays and always, drive sober. December was chosen for the National Impaired Driving Prevention Month initiative due to the increase in travel and impaired driving each year between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. As the holiday party season approaches, several groups are joining forces to keep the roads safe. Many agencies are coordinating an annual campaign to target impaired drivers and help keep motorists safe.
Motorists should have a plan to get home safely BEFORE deciding to drink. If you feel different, you drive different. For those motorists that are not using alcohol or drugs but must pass through inconvenient checkpoints, just remember that these stops help to save lives. Your cooperation during these checkpoints helps to keep things running smoothly.
