Can interlock detect CBD or marijuana?
The increased interest in CBD/marijuana products brings up an important question…
Do the properties in weed or CBD oil affect ignition interlock devices? CBD oil is made from cannabidiol, a non-intoxicating extract of marijuana, and is believed to treat pain, anxiety, and seizures. There is a lot of talk about CBD oil. CBD is a compound that is in the cannabis plant. Some may associate CBD oil with marijuana since it comes from the same plant, but many CBD oil products carry a very small amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) or even no THC at all.
But ignition interlock devices are not intended to detect CBD oil or marijuana.

Other helpful info
We always suggest rinsing your mouth with water before any breath test. If your CBD oil has properties like menthol or ethanol because of its flavor, make sure to swish your mouth with water before taking a breath test. CBD oil with flavors like peppermint may have properties that your device may detect. Especially if you use products containing alcohol, such as mouthwash, be sure to swish your mouth with water before taking your ignition interlock test.
And as always, don’t drive if any substance you use alters your ability to drive. Alcohol is not the only dangerous product when you’re behind the wheel. If you feel different, you drive different.
